The Lions dominated the first half with a mix of blinding pace and big hits, scoring on ten minutes through a converted try no.8 Mark Gillespie. Flyhalf Andrew Carroll added a conversion and penalty goal to see Beecroft ahead by 10-nil just before half time.
The Whales kept themselves in the hunt with a try to outside centre Harrison Brown as the half time siren sounded, and then evened it up after the break through a second five pointer to no.8 Nick Breen.
With the stage set for a nail biting finish the Lions secured the title four minutes from time when Carroll booted a second penalty goal, sparking scenes of celebration among the Beecroft faithful in the 500-strong crowd.
Beecroft captain Levi Broughton-Rouse accepted the inaugural trophy and the $4,000 winners cheque from World Under 85kg secretariat Chairman and former Waratahs and Australian coach Bob Dwyer.
