Sydney has successfully defended the National Women's Championship with a nail-biting 6-5 victory over Queensland in today's tournament decider.

While Queensland scored the only try of the match, Sydney flyhalf Rachelle Pirie nailed two penalties to give the defending champions the narrowest of victories.

Having kicked just one conversion from ten attempts on the opening day, it looked as though Sydney's goalkicking may come back to haunt them later in the tournament.

However today it was Pirie's sure boot which kicked Sydney to victory.

In other matches on the final day of competition NSW Country defeated Victoria 11-0 in the third place playoff, Western Australia overcame the Brumbies 17-0 in the battle for fifth while Australian Services beat the National Indigenous team 22-7 to place seventh.

At the conclusion of the carnival the Wallaroos team was announced, with 14 NSW players named in the national squad.
