Sydney University has consolidated its place at the top of the Tooheys New Shute Shield table with a comprehensive 42-5 defeat over second-placed Gordon at University Oval.

West Harbour, Randwick and Warringah have aided their chances of gaining a finals berth heading into the closing stages of the competition with Wests breaking a 19-19 halftime deadlock to post a 37-22 defeat over Parramatta, Randwick defeating Eastwood 39-22 after being behind at 13-12 at halftime and Warringah emphatically defeating Penrith 69-22.
