Norths’ flyhalf Dave Harvey has helped his side take a gutsy win against a favoured Eastern Suburbs side, kicking four second half penalty goals in a tryless 12-6 win at Woollahra Oval.
It was a tough encounter for both sides as they battled in the wet conditions; however it was the indiscipline of the Eastern Suburbs side that allowed Harvey, a Western Force representative, to boot his side to victory.
Eastern Suburbs’ favoured forward pack started the match strongly, drawing an early penalty that allowed flyhalf Angus Sinclair to kick the first points of the match.
Much of the first half possession was dominated by the home side, who held possession but couldn’t breach the Northern Suburbs’ defensive line. A second Sinclair penalty extended the lead to 6-0 at the interval.
Northern Suburbs fought back after the break and through consistent pressure on the Beasts’ outside backs, Harvey was able to kick four consecutive penalties to take his side to a six point lead.
Despite a yellow card to Norths’ flanker Will Miller late in the second half, Eastern Suburbs couldn’t capitalise on a numerical advantage and the Shoremen held on for a gutsy win away from home.
Northern Suburbs 12 (Dave Harvey 4 pens) d Eastern Suburbs 6 (Angus Sinclair 2 pens)
