Throughout the home and away season, Sydney Colts teams earn points for their achievements, with the winner crowned the Colts Club Champions and the honour of being awarded the Eric Spilsted Shield.
The Eric Spilsted Shield was named in honour of Eric Spilsted and donated by the Warringah Rugby Club for him to present to the winning club in each season’s Colts Club Championship.
Warringah felt it important not only that Eric’s contribution to Rugby be recognised in perpetuity and that his name live on, but that young players be given the opportunity to appreciate the history relating to the former Warringah Club President and later, publisher of Rugby News for 18 years. His love for rugby was only matched by the unbiased energy and input he gave to it.
The coveted trophy recognises Eric’s committed links to Colts Rugby as just one of his many contributions to the game, with his old Club especially proud to have honoured him in this way. Eric passed away in September, 2004.
