Eight NSW women have been selected in the Buildcorp Wallaroos squad to tour New Zealand in mid-June.

The tour will comprise of three tests against England, New Zealand and Canada next month ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland this August.

There are seven players included from the Buildcorp National Womens XV-winning side Sydney, including test veterans Cobie-Jane Morgan and Ashleigh Hewson. Also joining them in the backline is potential debutant Kayla Suavao, who made a solid impression on the competition held last weekend at Runaway Bay, Gold Coast.

From the forwards, two-test duo Grace Hamilton and Alexandra Sulusi will be eager to add their physicality in the engine room and will line up behind prop Evelyn Horomia who also in line for her debut.

From the NSW Country Corellas is scrumhalf Katrina Barker who was solid in her ball delivery last weekend, and will be looking to build on the 2 caps she already has to her name.

Joining the squad alongside the ten debutants and seven players who debuted last year are Aussie 7’s Co-Captains, Shannon Parry and Sharni Williams.

Buildcorp Wallaroos Head Coach Paul Verrell was clinical in his approach to selection ahead of the tour of New Zealand.

“We have been monitoring players in training and in matches since we returned from New Zealand last year,” said Verrell. “The players named in this squad is a testament to their hard work and performances over the last twelve months.

“It has been very encouraging to see the next generation coming through. They have really lifted their work rate both on and off the field, which has led to their selection in this squad.

“Combined with the experience of Shannon Parry, Sharni Williams, Ash Hewson, Cheyenne Campbell and Rebecca Clough, we feel we have a very strong squad for this tour.

“We’ll continue the hard work for our three tough Test matches this June, as we continue to build depth for our Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign.”

This tour of New Zealand is set to be an intense preparation camp for the World Cup later this year, with a final camp to be held in Sydney prior to departure to Ireland.
