NSW Waratah captain Michel Hooper has won the Mathew Burke Cup for the fifth time in a row at the NSW Rugby Union Annual Awards, presented at The Homestead in Centennial Park.

The backrower made history last year when he won the Cup for the fourth consecutive time.

The Award is named after the NSW fullback who played 115 games for his state between 1992 and 2004 and also presented the current skipper with his Award last night.

Hooper last night added one more Cup to his tally by polling 340 votes which was 152 votes ahead of the second-placed player, Israel Folau.

The NSW Waratahs player’s player award is decided by tallying the votes of the match day squad, who allocate their votes on a 3-2-1 basis after every game of the Super Rugby season.

Michael Hooper also received the best forward award while Israel Folau was voted as best back.

Sekope Kepu was recognised for winning his 100th cap in round four of this year’s Super Rugby competition against the Brumbies, having made his debut for the state in 2008.

The Hunters Hill Rugby Club was named the NSW Club of the Year while Taylor Adams from West Harbour was against recognised for receiving the Ken Catchpole Medal.

In all 23 Awards were presented at the presentation night, recognising junior players, coaches and administrators as well as the volunteers and community rugby clubs.
