Rugby Union will be on show at Friday’s (October 6th) joint Youth Centre Rugby Gala Day at the Emerton Youth Recreation Centre, Mount Druitt.

Over 150 kids are expected to attend from a number of neighbouring youth centres including Darlinghurst, Redfern, Kingswood, Belmore, Auburn as well as local Community Schools and local organisation, “Youth off the Streets”.

On top of a free BBQ lunch and a Pedal Power Smoothie Drinks Bike, the day will feature VIVA 7’s amongst other activities such as passing challenges, table tennis and pool.

NSW Rugby Development Manager for Sydney Metro Owain Roberts says the day will help expose some kids to a world of sport they may never have experienced before.

“The goals of the Youth Centre align perfectly with the aim of the event, which is to give young athletes of Western Sydney the opportunity to have their abilities recognised,” said Roberts.

“It was past events like these in Western Sydney that saw the likes of current world-class players and we know there is a stack of talent just waiting to be uncovered.”

A number of NSW Rugby Development Officers will be running a number of skills, drills and competitions throughout the afternoon at Mount Druitt. Aside from just learning how to better themselves on the footy field, kids will learn how to better themselves within their community says Roberts.

“Footy is an excellent engagement tool and strategy that can be used to create bonds between people and the wider community,” he said.

“The event provides a massive opportunity for young people to develop their character as well as their knowledge and skills in sport, which are the necessary ingredients to create future Australian athletes.”

The Rugby Gala Day will take place at Emerton Youth Recreation Centre this Friday (October 6th) from 12-4pm.
