Over 150 kids from Sydney’s Western Suburbs were given a day of footy fun at the Youth Centre Rugby Gala Day held last Friday at the Emerton Youth Recreation Centre, Mount Druitt.

The participants come from a number of neighbouring youth centres, including Darlinghurst, Redfern, Kingswood, Belmore, Auburn in addition to local Community Schools and organisation, “Youth off the Streets”.

NSW Rugby Development Officer for Sydney Metro, Pat Sanford, said kids of all ages were partaking in the skills, drills and games throughout the course of the day.

“There were at least 150 kids out at the Rugby Gala Day at Mount Druitt all taking part in the various activities and it was awesome to see the talent come out in spades when the VIVA 7’s games kicked off,” Sanford said.

Also on deck was NSW Rugby Development Manager for Sydney Metro Owain Roberts, who said the gala day exposed some kids to a world of sport they may never have experienced before.

“The goals of the Youth Centre aligned perfectly with the aim of the event, which was to give young athletes of Western Sydney the opportunity to have their abilities recognised,” said Roberts. “We know there is a stack of talent just waiting to be uncovered.”
