As the first weekend of Shute Shield competition approaches, we take a look at who’s up against who in the first club rugby preview of the year.

Televised Match: Warringah (H) vs Northern Suburbs (A)

In their first home match of the year, the Rats will be looking to take it to a hungry Norths outfit who are seeking to go back to back in 2017.

Despite last year’s dream run, Norths Coach Simon Cron was clear about his side’s mindset heading into round one.

“They all know they have to start again”, he said. “Some players won last year, other’s left and there are new players in the team who haven’t won a premiership, so there’s a lot of work to do, so it’s about what we can do and how we can get better.”

“The players know there’s on bullseye on them now but they’re embracing the idea and the challenge that goes with that, and yes it’s going to be tough.”

Up at Rat HQ, many changes have been made season including the appointment of NSW Country Eagles coach Darren Coleman. Amongst the 2017 playing group are NSW Waratah forwards Maclean Jones, Harry Jones and Sam Needs, who will be looking to put their Waratah pre-season experience to the test.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00PM with the broadcast running on 7TWO.
